DescriptionThe Globe's institutional archive comprises minutes, correspondence and administrative papers documenting the establishment and running of the Globe as a theatre, educational centre and exhibition space. Shakespeare's Globe Library and Archives is also the repository for records of performances held at the Globe, including audio and video recordings, prompt books, wardrobe notes and jottings, music scores, production ephemera. Other holdings include correspondence and diaries of prominent figures associated with the Globe, including Sam Wanamaker and Mark Rylance; and documentation of architectural research and practice for the construction of the Globe and the indoor Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.The Globe also houses the Original Practices Clothing Archive, a collection of 26 original costumes created for Shakespeare's Globe in the period 1997-2005.

AccessConditionsAccess is by appointment only. The Globe Library & Archives are open Wednesday to Thursday, 10.00 am - 5.00 pm. Printed material open; minutes, financial documents and correspondence files closed for a period of 30 years after the date of the most recent item in the file, apart from some digitised material already open on the Shakespeare's Globe Archive at https://www.shakespearesglobearchive.amdigital.co.uk/Introduction, available on-site in the Shakespeare's Globe Library & Archive Reading Room.
